If I Were President… #2

What can I say, the country’s officially in the crapper.  Let’s face it, we live in a Socialist state, we just haven’t realized it yet, but if I were President, I would support business, and the Constitution.  So just for the heck of it, here are a few more platform points:

  • Taxes
    • No VAT in America - VAT (Value Added Tax) is a really bad idea, it is being pitched as essentialy a national sales tax, but it is far more subtle, opaque, and insidious than that. VAT is a tax that is added to the price of goods throughout the manufacturing process. Tha means that stuff would cost more, and that the process would be completely opaque to the average consumer. This is a recipe for unbridled Government greed, and economic disaster. Now a national sales tax is not necessarily a bad thing, but it should be a retail sales tax, and it should only be implemented in exchange for the permanent abolition of income tax.
  • Social Issues
    • Same-Sex Marriage - There’s really no question here, this is not a civil rights issue. Marriage has always been a sacred institution between one man and one woman. This fundamental societal unit should be protected. The only way to do this is through an ammendment to the U.S. Constitution. Such an ammendment would not prevent individual states from allowing civil unions. Re-defining marriage in any way is a really bad idea, it opens the flood gates and makes anything anyone wants to do perfectly acceptable. So if someone wants to marry an animal, that’s OK, if someone wants to marry their brother/sister/cousin, well who can say that’s wrong. If an adult wanted to “marry” a child, that too would have to be accepted. Don’t believe me, it’s already happening, Google “triad marriage”. We need a Federal Marriage Ammendment NOW!

OK, let the flaming arrows fly.

Marriage is between a man and woman, huh? Isn’t that in the Bible? See, the Bible as well as marriage isn’t mentioned in the US Constitution other than the Fist Amendment that says that government will make no law establishing religion. And, here’s the thing, chunk muffin, the reason that’s in there is to protect us from a freakin Iranian style Christian Theocracy that folks like you want to shove down everyone’s throat. You can’t run a civilization with bible thumpers in the White House.

Abolishing income tax!!! Bahahahaha!!! Wow. Really? Okay, then crap, let’s make fire departments and police a pay as you go private enterprise, too. Hell, let’s put a gun in everyone’s hand and let the schools rot. Like libraries? Well, those are gone too without income taxes. Like safe drinking water? Wave bye-bye. Like clean air, that’ll be gone, too because we won’t have the EPA. Oh, and a standing army to fight off all ‘them towelheads’ would be history, too. Good idea. No more income tax. Shit, who needs hospitals anyway.

Dear johnnydangerously, thank you for taking my offer to be flamed for my positions. It’s just too bad that you didn’t actually read my post first. Let me help you therefore, to understand what I actually said. First, you are correct, marriage is defined in the Bible, and the bible defines it as being between one man and one woman. Second, you are correct, the U.S. Constitution does not contain a definition of marriage, that’s the problem. Now until very recently, it simply wasn’t necessary becaus no culture in history has ever thought that same-sex marriage was a good idea. Unfortunately, some in America have completely lost all common sense. It is for this reason that I believe that we need to settle this matter, and the only way that this can be done effectively is through an ammendment to the Constitution (you see ammendments are meant to address issues that the Constitution did not originally address). Third, I never said anything about income tax. I spoke about Value Added Tax, which was at the time, proposed for the United States. However it was being proposed in a very under-handed way. Value Added Tax (VAT) is not simply a national sales tax, neither is an income tax. It is a tax that compounds itself at every stage of the manufacturing process. I have never suggested abolishing income taxes. I do think that abolishing the current system of income taxes is a good idea, though I haven’t decided what the replacement should be. Perhaps a flat tax, whereby the first $35,000 of income would be exempt, then the remainder would be taxed at 17%. Or perhaps, there is a better system, again I haven’t decided. In any case, please have the courtesy to read my posts and understand them before you make a fool of yourself.
