(Not the) End of the World Party
So while we’re on the subject of the world (not) ending today, I’m announcing my plan to hold a “The World Didn’t End Yesterday” party on December 22, 2012. This party will be dedicated to all of the worshippers of the Mayan Codex out there. You see, according to several latter day “prophets”, the Mayans predicted the end of the world (which will occur on December 21, 2012). This, of course is based upon the fact that the Mayan calendar accurately records dates from the beginning of their civilization to December 21, 2012. Then, it abruptly stops. Thus, “obviously” the apocalypse will come on December 21, 2012. Of course the Bible (which is rejected a priori) records that Jesus (whom they say, also a priori, can’t possibly God Incarnate, who of course, they’ve determined, again a priori, doesn’t exist) said no one, not even himself, pre-asscension, knows the day or hour of the Judgment. But I suppose that we shouldn’t let details bother us.
Just to be clear, this present world will end, this will happen when Jesus Christ bodily returns in glory and Judgment. This will happen at a time when no one expects, and it will be after the Tribulation. There will be no secret Rapture of Christians. Those Christians who are alive at that time will go through the turmoil of the Tribulation, but will not face the final Judgment. Got that? Anyone who sets a date for these events is lying, period.

I love fairy tales! Tell me again how much god loves me, but if i chose to exercise free and chose not to believe in him, he will banish me to hell where I will burn in a lake of fire for eternity and it will be so absolutely horrible with unending unimaginable pain. But, hey, God loves me and I have free will. HA! And, I love how you use a book, the bible, with absolutely no basis in fact or merit to establish an argument that refutes another religion without fact or merit. Brilliant!

No, let’s be clear, you don’t have free will, no one does. That’s because there is no such thing as free will. Now free agency, on the other hand is a valid concept, but free will is simply ridiculous. You see, the will is nothing more than our faculty of choosing, and that is bound by our desires. We always choose according to our strongest desire at the moment of choice, and never contrary to it. Moreover, the will is bound by the laws of nature, no matter how much I desire to fly under my own power, I cannot simply will myself to fly, and if I were to jump off of the roof of my house, I would be bound by the law of gravity. So, in no sense is the will free, being as it is a secondary thing. Free agency, however is something that we all do have, and it simply means that we have the ability to choose whatsoever we desire. Of course, none of this has anything to do with what I posted, so I’m not sure why I’m having this discussion. Actually, my post is rather brilliant, now that you mention it, thank you for noticing. Now as for 2012, if I wanted to, I could argue purely from reason and science, but that probably wouldn’t make any difference. But here’s the real crux of all this, it is monumentally unwise to criticize someone for having “absolutely no basis in fact or merit to establish an argument” by making a dogmatic assertion which itself is not based in fact or reason. Don’t you think?
